Spiral/Triskele

The Greek term Triskelion literally means "three-legged," and this symbol looks very much like three legs running in a forward direction and is generally thought to represent the three aspects of existence, Life, Death and Re-birth, Father Mother Child, Maiden, Woman and Crone, Past Present and Future etc.

The Spiral is seen in many ancient cultures to illustrate the cyclic movements in nature.  They observed, as we do now, spiraling galaxies, the spiral growth patterns in shells and plants, whirly winds and spiraling water. They also observed the cyclic nature of the seasons, the cycles of the moon, and animal migrations.  They understood that all life is cyclic, dynamic and eternal and they used the spiral design to express their understanding of these never ending processes of Life.
